10 spring favourites to make you happy
Do you already know these bulbs which do equally well as a potted bulb in the home, or as a bulb in the garden? We would like to introduce them.
1. Daffodils
You must know the yellow daffodil already, but you can also get white, pink and bi-coloured potted daffodil bulbs. Did you know that the dwarf daffodil Topolino has been named Spring flower of the year 2014?
2. Hyacinths
You not only bring the colour but also the perfume of spring into your home with a hyacinth. This potted bulb is available in white, purple, pink and light yellow and all of them spread that lovely spring perfume.
3. Grape hyacinths
Nowadays you can also get grape hyacinths in white. Because these potted bulbs don’t grow so high, they look great with a collection of bulbs with long stems like Amaryllises, daffodils or tulips.
4. Tulips
When you think about spring, you think about tulips. You will have to wait until April to see them in the garden, but you can enjoy them much earlier as a potted bulb. Place them on the mantelpiece, your desk or give them as a gift in red, yellow, white, pink and purple.
5. Crocuses
At the end of winter you can see crocuses everywhere, shooting out of the ground. They are also happy indoors as a potted bulb in different colours such as white, blue-purple and yellow.
6. Fritillaries
Lovely name isn’t it? The name derives from the Latin term ‘fritillus’ and refers to its chequered patterning. This plant with yellow, white or purple flowers may look fragile, but this potted bulb can take a knock or two.
7. Irises
Irises flower like soldiers on the front line. With their intense blue flowers these potted bulbs are really obvious as there aren’t many plants with this deep colour. The Iris is also available in white and purple.
8. Anemone blanda
Ask a child to draw a flower and they will automatically draw something which looks a lot like the Anemone blanda. The sweet flowers of this potted bulb are blue or white with a yellow heart.
9. Snow drop
The snowdrop is maybe one of the most well-known messenger of spring. This potted bulb is available already in January and February and is white, but that’s logical with that kind of name.
10. Lily of the Valley
This potted bulb spreads a gorgeous spring perfume. This, combined with the romantic flowers, makes the Lily of the Valley a real spring favourite.
