April and May + beeldSTEIL

Exciting interpretation of a historic painting

April and May is an inspiring online platform about interiors, design, fashion and lifestyle. Queens of creation and inspiration, the two founders believe that everything has a story attached to it, and want to share those stories with you. In conjunction with beeldSTEIL and at the request of online magazine The Green Gallery, they got to work to create their interpretation of Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s historic painting ‘The Day Dream’, dating from 1880.

Shared love of greenery and nature

April and May are the stylists Jantine Vaartjes and Vivian Hoebe. This creative duo are inspired by the Scandinavian approach to design, interiors and composition. They feel that plants and flowers create a certain mood and atmosphere; greenery affects how you feel and inspires in many different ways.

Joining forces

BeeldSTEIL is the place to go for photography and photographic styling. BeeldSTEIL founder Wendy van Woudenberg likes to share everything beautiful that catches her eye. Both April and May and BeeldSTEIL started blogging several years ago with the aim of inspiring as many people as possible and sharing lots of beautiful things. It rapidly became a serious business for both of them, with a large group of followers on social media. It’s also where they encountered one another, and they hit it off straightaway. The same passion brings out the best in both of them, which means they can inspire one another even more and together they create images that tell a story … and we love to settle down on the sofa to enjoy them.

Back to 1880

April and May and beeldSTEIL have created an artwork inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s fabulous historic painting ‘The Day Dream’, painted in 1880. They have transported the woman from the past to the present day. Nature and greenery were therefore very important, since it is nature that captures her beauty. The Day Dream inspired the team to work with the theme of concealment and keeping things hidden.

You can find out why the lady in the historic painting is sitting amidst the branches of a plane tree holding a sprig of honeysuckle in The Green Gallery. It’s a love story…
