The Clorofilas: Where botany meets art

Look at these stunning plant installations from Jeanette Ramirez

After studying gardening and botany, Venezuelan born artist Jeanette Ramirez turned to plants to breathe new life into her work. Fascinated with the idea of vegetation as a creative material, the artist began to explore the relationship of plants in domestic and public space – and so the Clorofilas Creative Lab of Plants was born.

And the results are nothing short of stunning.

In Ramirez’s words, the Clorofilas is “a creative laboratory that explores the aesthetic potential of vegetation as a primary source for experimentation”. Since launching the project, the artist, who currently lives in England, has worked on a vast range of projects such as set design, botanical and floral design, and education workshops.

From transforming a disused Edwardian public toilet block into a botanical haven, to creating a stunning living wall, where earthy moss is beautifully contrasted with succulents in pretty pastel tones, The Clorofilas lab has a knack of turning banal spaces into places of beauty.
