How to decorate your Christmas table with plants
For the ultimate Christmas atmosphere at your table, why not drench it in greenery? Think beyond twigs and branches, which die quickly and create waste, and use full-sized plants instead.
The plants you choose depend on your taste, but we recommend using some of the classic Christmas specimens. We used Hellebore, also known as the Christmas rose, air-purifying fern and wonderfully fragrant eucalyptus.
Tip: vary leaf shapes, heights and shades of green. This creates a diverse look and turns your table into a beautiful botanical party! Get inspired by our green Christmas table pictured.
A colourful Christmas table laden with plants
If you're more maximalist and love the look and feel of bold and bright colours, use colourful plants to decorate your Christmas table. We used plants such as Orchid, Croton and Amaryllis. These plants simply scream Christmas and are easy to repurpose post-festive season, when they can be simply enjoyed as pot plants. For an extra festive feel, you can also scatter smaller colourful twigs or other winter decorations, such as pine cones, around the table.
Extra tips for decorating your Christmas table with greenery
However you decorate your Christmas table, using fully grown plants will create a warm, relaxed atmosphere over breakfast, Christmas lunch or drinks. Check out some additional tips for decorating your Christmas table below:
- Dare to experiment and discover what you can do with greenery. Should you put the plants in the middle of the table, or at the side? You can even use plants as place settings - simply hang a name tag for each guest, and they can take them home afterwards.
- Try hanging Christmas notes, song lyrics, poetry or wishes on your plants (like we did on our alternative Christmas tree here).
- If you have some pretty twigs or sprigs of greenery, place them with some candles in a large bowl and create a centrepiece for your table table, or scatter them among the settings for atmosphere and texture.
- Are the holidays over? Don't let that spoil your fun! Once your Christmas table is put away for next year, simply repurpose the potted plants elsewhere in your home - of gift them to friends and family once the season is over.
