DIY: cool ice sticks with apéro attitude

Cool, green and photogenic, they keep your drink chilled

Apéro drinks should be - and remain - nice and cold. Whilst you chat with friends and family, enjoy a snack and listen to some music, ice blocks gently tinkle in your glass. But we wouldn’t be us if we didn’t want to lift your ice cubes to a higher, greener plane. So we present: the botanical ice stick.

What you need:

  • Plastic test tubes + holder

  • Herbs such as rosemary, thyme, lavender or small, slender,  photogenic plant stems or leaves;

  • Water

  • Space in your freezer compartment

  • A bit of patience

How to make the ice sticks:

  • Place a sprig in a test tube, ensuring that the tip protrudes above the test tube.

  • Fill the test tube with water and place it in the holder.

  • Do this with all the test tubes, and place the holder with test tubes in the freezer.

  • When it’s apéro time, carefully pull the sticks out of the test tubes by the protruding stem, and place them in the drinks.

We’d love to see how they turned out! Share a photo on Instagram with #aperobotanico.
