tropical looks, hardy edge
The Camellia may have a tropical look, but the plant is a winter bloomer. This cousin of the tea plant and the Japanese rose enjoys the semi-shade and rewards your good care with brilliant, rose-like flowers. Just imagine, morning dew and a jaunty Camellia standing proudly above a layer of mist. Isn't that a picture?
CLOSE TO THE WINDOW
In the autumn, you sit comfortably inside. Under a blanket, on the couch with a steaming mug of tea and your favourite series ready to play. But still, you can't help but peek outside once in a while. How do you distract the eye from dry leaves and faded annuals? Place a camellia right in front of the window! Camellias are evergreen shrubs and small trees with dark green, glossy, long leaves. The flowers shine out in white, purple and red. Many camellias flower from February to May, when other plants in your garden are not yet ready or are hibernating. There are also hardy autumn Camellias which flower from October to January.
it's a pot plant, too
Nobody likes an ugly plant pot, but a nice designer one can quickly become expensive. Not to worry! With a few metres of jute or natural sacking and a few sturdy ropes, you can turn any dull pot into a nice little moment.
