The beauty of nature
Painstakingly hand-cutting each individual component from copper, brass or steel mesh, McKinney tints the shapes with the subtlest variations of colour and assembles them into these remarkable, breathtaking forms.
Her depiction of subjects like falling autumn leaves is testament to her adapt manipulation of materials as well as her keen sense of the subtle nuances of colour in nature.
A statement on McKinney’s website sums it up beautifully as ‘the fragility and ephemerality of nature captured in the strength and permanence of industrial, man made materials’.

About the artist…
In 1988, McKinney graduated from the University of Central England with a 1st class honours in Silversmithing and Jewellery Design. It was during her time as a jewellery designer that she fell for the charms of ultra-fine woven metal – and the rest is history. Exhibited in shows around the world, the artist has also undertaken numerous high-profile commissions from the likes of the British Council, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and the Dorchester Hotel Group.
