Wellies
Repurpose an old pair of wellington boots into a cute planter. Drill a hole in the bottom of each shoe for drainage and place rocks in the bottom for balance.
Mason Jars & Storage Jars
We all tend to gather sauce jars in the back of the cupboard for a rainy day - well now is the exact rainy day to make use of your old jars and put some plants in them! As always, lay stones in the bottom to protect the precious roots.
Tea Cups & Mugs
Perfect for collections of small succulents and cacti, smaller plants or plants that do well when pot bound. You can go kitsch with a selection of your old mugs in fun designs, or more sophisticated by buying a set or perhaps a colour theme. We also love clear glass mugs for a cool twist to see the roots too. Place small stones and rocks in the bottom to avoid water swamped roots.
Bird Houses
While bird houses are nice for housing small birds, we can’t deny they’re not adorable as plant pots, too. We think they look best attached to a fence (maybe a couple in a row painted different colours) with hanging plants and flowers.
Watering Cans
Spray paint a plastic watering can and carefully chop the top off to make room for a plant. We attached cord to the spout and handle to turn ours into a hanging basket, cute! Perfect for Ivy or a trailing succulent.
Wicker & Wooden Baskets or Crates
Line anything wooden and wicker with plastic to avoid rot and then add rocks to protect roots. These containers are often nice and roomy for bigger plants or for containing flowers such as nasturtium that like to spread at rapid rates.
Have you tried any of the above? Have you upcycled something different to create the perfect plant pot? Tweet us about it, we'd love to hear from you.
