The hibiscus in your tea
You can buy hibiscus tea*, made from the flowers of the houseplant, in shops. Hibiscus tea has a beautiful red colour, a slightly acidic taste and seems to be very healthy. Hibiscus is packed with vitamin C and can lower blood pressure (research by Diane McKay, published in the Journal of Nutrition in 2010). Ideal for making iced tea with strawberries and rhubarb.
Recipe for hibiscus iced tea
What do you need for this tasty drink?
-
4 stalks of rhubarb, cut into thin slices
-
1 litre of water
-
2 or 3 hibiscus tea bags
-
1 or 2 tablespoons of honey
-
A small punnet of strawberries, cleaned and cut into small pieces
The Gourmande in the Kitchen blog by foodie Sylvie Shirazi tells you how to make the iced tea (and you can also find many other delicious recipes and fantastic photographs there). Cheers!
* We recommend that you buy the teabags instead of making the tea yourself, since not all hibiscus plants are suitable for human consumption.
