Obviously you enjoy nature, particularly if you’re gazing out at your own garden. Plants, flowers, grass, butterflies and birds: the views, the sounds and the scents provide a sense of peace. And that’s lovely after a long day. Unfortunately mosquitoes also turn up to enjoy this lovely summer evening. Of course you can buy a mosquito spray, but we’d rather offer you seven natural remedies to help you get through the summer without bites and irritation. It’s green with leaves and packed with joyous characteristics and scents. Guess what it is...
1. Rosemary
Tastes differ. Whilst you adore the taste and smell of rosemary, a mosquito finds this herb repellent. So create a herb garden nearby for a summer win-win situation.
2. Catnip
Particularly handy if you don’t like mosquitoes but do love felines, since they adore catnip. Hello pussycat, bye bye mosquito.
3. Lavender
Another beautifully scented herb on the list! Whilst lavender gets you right in the holiday mood, it basically does something similar for mosquitoes: they quickly pack their bags and head for a more bug-friendly destination.
4. Tomato leaves
A tomato plant on your patio or a couple of leaves from the plant on the table: mosquitoes will go out of their way to avoid them.
5. Mint
Whilst you pick a couple of leaves of this plant for your tea or cocktail, mosquitoes will turn tail. Do plant your mint in a pot, since it has a tendency to run wild.
6. Common marigold
The yellow or orange flowers not only brighten up your patio, but also have a scent that repels mosquitoes. So plant some of these annual bloomers quickly.
7. Lemon balm
Lemon balm, lemon grass, and the lemon scent of rose geranium - there’s something about the smell of lemons that mosquitoes don’t like. But the herb is a real attraction to bees, and they need all the help they can get. So plant these lemon-scented herbs.
And finally...
Mosquitos love stagnant water. So don’t place your patio furniture too close to the pond, and empty watering cans and flowerpots that have filled with rainwater.
