Colours and shapes
From February to April, Forsythia undergoes a transformation, producing masses of bell-shaped yellow flowers on its upright branches. When the flowers have finished blooming they make way for a flurry of new green leaves. The beautiful branches like to keep growing — if you don’t prune the shrub it can reach a height of three metres.
Origin
Forsythia is native to China, Korea and Japan, but you can sometimes also find the shrub in Europe. The plant was brought to the United Kingdom in the 18th century by its namesake, the British gardener William Forsyth.
Trivia
You might not think it at first glance, but the plant is a member of the Oleaceae family, and is related to the majestic olive tree.
