what is a room of wonder?
Rooms of wonder have been around since the end of the 13th century. They are traditionally a place where objects found in nature are collected and displayed. Florian and Ueli give the wonder room a modern and green twist by combining the objects with plants. They incorporate their wonder rooms into still lifes and interior designs.
PLANTS TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY
Plants bring a feeling with them, a natural feeling with a kind of primal force that only plants have. They can also take you on a journey. "When I see palms I think of a beautiful sandy beach, and a cactus makes me think of the desert. Tropical orchids, anthuriums and ferns make me think of the jungle," says Florian. So you can create an atmosphere with plants just as much as with objects. And that is exactly what the Plant Designers love about a room of wonder.
NATURE IS THE ARTIST
The positioning of plants is also important. Do you position a plant on a surface or hang it up? Does it need a lot of light, or a little? "Nature is the artist and we are only her assistants. The trick is to create an exciting dialogue between plants and objects. Think for example of the combination of an amethyst (a purple-coloured gemstone) with a purple-coloured plant," Ueli says.
