Not only functional these legs are sleek, modern and a nod to interior design of days gone by. Now you can choose to buy a piece of furniture, but we love the idea of making your own!
Writer, designer, stylist and blogger Carrie Walker inspired us with a fantastic DIY project to make a hairpin side table of your very own which not only looks great but provides a fantastic spot for a botanical beauty in your home. So dust off your tool belt and prepare to make something unique!
You will need:
- Hairpin leg set
- Wooden tabletop (in this case, circular)
- Ruler
- Protractor
- Square Ruler
- Plant Pot (and plant!)
- Compass & Pencil
- Electric Drill & Drill bit
- Electric Jigsaw
- Wood file
- Screws
- Wood stain/paint
Method:
- Find the center of your wooden tabletop using a ruler to draw a line down the middle and use a protractor to work out where you want to place the legs by dividing 360 degrees by the number of legs. For example, you would position a leg every 120 degrees to have 3 legs. Mark the locations.
- Position your plant pot upside down in the center of your tabletop making sure it's right in the middle and draw around the pot. To be exact, work out the diameter of the pot and calculate the circumference before useing a compass to draw your guiding line.
- Cut out your pot-circle. TIP: You may need to make a hole with a drill to get you started, then use a jigsaw.
- File down any rough inside edges of your newly created hole with a file.
- Drill the holes for your leg attachments at the points you marked earlier and then screw them into place.
- Finish off with a stain or paint of your choosing, place your favourite plant in the hole and sit back and admire your fabulous new side table planter!
